A festival was held at the Washinomiya Shrine in Saitama Prefecture a few days ago, and Fuji TV filmed this report focusing on how the shrine has become popular after being used as a setting for the anime series Lucky Star:
This year’s festival included a special mikoshi covered in Lucky Star artwork. Japanese and foreign otaku came to pay homage to their beloved 2D idols, and it has been reported that this year’s festival saw a visitor increase of 20,000. Local shops have seen 150% increase in business, possibly because some restaurants are cashing in by naming dishes after Lucky Star characters.
