Kyoto and Shimane special 1000 Yen coins

The Japanese government is creating 94 types of commemorative 500 and 1,000 yen coins, including special coins for each prefecture. The designs for Kyoto and Shimane (pictured above) were announced by the Finance Ministry today:

The 1,000-yen coins for Kyoto and Shimane will be sterling silver, weigh 31.1 grams and measure 40 millimeters in diameter. The government will mint a total of 100,000 of each coin.

The Kyoto coin features a scene from the classic work penned by Murasaki Shikibu (Lady Murasaki), depicting romances among members of the court in medieval Kyoto.

It will be issued before the millennial anniversary Nov. 1 of the Tale of Genji, which first appeared in recorded history in 1008.

The Shimane coin will be minted to celebrate the addition last year of the centuries-old Iwami silver mine to the World Heritage List of the U.N. Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization.

The reverse side of the coins will have a uniform design for all 47 prefectures, featuring snow crystals, cherry blossoms and a crescent moon.

The coins will have a face value of 1,000 yen, but will be sold to collectors for 6,000 each. The next two coins in the series, featuring famous things Niigata and Nagano, will be released in 2009.

I was so looking forward to today.. Well the plan was we were supposed to eat at Santouka Ramen up @ mitsuwa, but little miss dress up(Yuki) changed his pants like 2 times, and he left his wallet in the other pantsu... so realising that when we were gonna pay the drinks @ mitsuwa.. Thank GOD! we realized it beforehand.. otherwise that would have been soooo embarrasing.. This is why i keep telling him to let me have like at least 200 buxx so that i can put it in my wallet for saving purpose.. in case stuff like that happens right?? wink wink!! ;). Well anyways, we ended up @ Kohryu.. Still a good place to be eating ramen.. no complaints.. the guys there were cute too! even yuki said so! haha!!!

A U.S. version of the Japanese version popular series are in talks of being made right now, it will be anounced in or around 2010 if not sooner. No Word on who will be playing the characters yet.

American movie studio Vertigo Entertainment is apparently working on a remake of the popular franchise “Death Note,” which has been turned into three live-action films in Japan. The news was quietly revealed in production notes for the horror films “Shutter” and “The Strangers.”

Vertigo entertainments list of movies they produced includes

Two men are under investigation by police after being captured on film performing sex acts on line 5 of the Seoul Subway.

The 12-minute video, titled “Line 5, 2 Men” (지하철 5호선, 남자 둘), shows two men, who appear to be in their mid-20s, openly engaging in sex acts on the sparsely populated subway car. There is someone sitting next to them but after he moves away they strip to their underwear and begin the sex acts.

Furthermore, the video contains the sound of the recorded subway announcements, lending credence to it having really been made on a subway car.

But there is also the possibility that it was filmed with a hidden camera.

The police announced, “the video is spreading quickly through file-sharing programs on the internet. We have asked various portal sites to delete the video but netizens continue to circulate it.”


One media outlet has reported one citizens’ tip that the video in question was recorded two to three years ago.

That person said, “the video was made two or three years ago. It was put up for paid viewings on one gay website which isn’t around anymore. It was 100% a performance.”

There is high debate among netizens as to whether or not the video is for real and many are calling for the people involved to be found and punished.
